| Finding Images |
| Go to the top of any page of our site and simply enter a keyword such as ‘traffic’ and then press the Search button. Any image that contains the word ‘traffic’ will appear. |
- The search is not case sensitive.
- The search system adds a wildcard to the end of each search term. If you wish to search for the specific word entered, add a space to the end of it, for example ‘car ‘ will exclude ‘cart’. If you are unsure of how a keyword might end then just fill in as much as you wish, for example ‘fort’ will bring up ‘fort’, ‘fortification’, ‘fortified, and ‘fortress’.
Options in the advanced search allow you to:
- Vary numbers of images per page.
- Bring up the image title with each thumbnail
If you are interested in an image and want to find it again later, use the lightbox or simply jot down the image number (in the format XYZ-123). You can later find the image by searching for that image number in either the quick or advanced search. |
Once you have completed your search you will have a list of matching images displayed as thumbnails. If you wish to see the title of the image simply hold the cursor over the thumbnail, or select display captions at the search stage.
To look at an image more closely click on it. A larger sized (‘comping’) image will be brought up which you are free to download for internal comparison purposes.
Along with the image will be purchase options: the various image resolutions available for single image download, and the CD on which the image appears which you can browse or buy (if published on CD) . Click on one of the purchase options to add the item to your shopping basket. |
One of the options when you view the comping image is to add to lightbox. The lightbox function allows you to store images you are interested in without adding them to your basket. You can use this to compare images to make your final selection.
For example, if you require an image of a flower with an indistinct background, your search may bring up all images of flowers. You can add each of the images that fit your requirements to the lightbox, and then view the lightbox to decide which image to buy. The lightbox will be saved if you leave the site; if you wish to view it then it is linked from ‘account’, and from the front page. |
| To browse through the CDs click on the CD-ROMs tab at the top of the page. Click on the title of a CD to bring up the images on that disc. You can click on any individual image to buy it singly, or to bring up the larger comping image. You can add the CD to your shopping basket by clicking on ‘buy cd-rom’, or you can add it to your lightbox. |

| Our prices across the collection can be found on the technical specifications page. In addition, wherever you can add items to your basket, the price will be indicated. The shopping basket shows the value of all your purchases, and any tax and delivery charges. We charge in UK pounds sterling; if your credit card charges in another currency the cost will vary depending on the exchange rate used by your credit card company. If you are purchasing from a European Union country then you will be charged Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5% unless you provide us with your VAT Number. This does not apply to UK residents who will always be charged VAT. If you are based outside the European Union you will not pay any purchase tax. |
| Click on the Shopping Basket tab to bring up your selection. You can delete an item by clicking on delete, or click on the title to review your purchase. When you have finalised your selection click on ‘proceed to purchase’. Complete the secure form and click once on ‘click here to process your order’. Your order will be processed and a reference number and authorisation code given. Please print out this page for future reference. |
